For the grand finale, you’ll put your newly acquired knowledge into practice in a team project. The goal is to plan and solve an autonomous robotics task and present it in a friendly competition. The best teams win not only prizes, but also valuable contacts within the ROS community and industry.

The programme of the ROS Summer School 2026 at FH Aachen is your structured, hands-on entry into modern robotics with ROS2, the powerful open-source framework for robotics development. In close collaboration with MYBOTSHOP GmbH, this 10-day intensive training offers a varied learning concept that combines theory, practice and teamwork. In clearly structured modules, you’ll learn how to programme robotic systems with ROS2, implement autonomous navigation, integrate sensors, use simulation environments with Gazebo and develop robust software architectures for mobile robots.

The content ranges from ROS2 fundamentals – such as nodes, topics, services and TF2 – through connecting hardware components like LiDAR, IMUs and cameras, all the way to more complex applications with SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), navigation with the Nav2 stack, image processing with OpenCV and real-time data processing. Alongside the technical workshops, you’ll work in teams with real robotic systems such as the Clearpath Husky, Unitree Go2, Unitree H1, Ascento Research and the quadruped robot dog Unitree B2W. The robot platforms are provided by MYBOTSHOP and other industry partners and are a genuine highlight of the training.

The carefully designed structure of the ROS Summer School is divided into a first week covering fundamentals and system introduction, and a second week focused on practical implementation and deeper exploration. You’ll develop your own ROS2 projects, take part in daily coding sessions and benefit from close guidance by experienced lecturers and practitioners. The highlight of the programme is the final competition, in which you’ll implement a demanding robotics project in teams – including a live demo, presentation and awards ceremony.
